This sophisticated high chest was designed by Paul Frankl for the Johnson Furniture Company circa 1950. The chest is a first-rate example of Frankl's midcentury work, which was influenced by Minimalism, Asian architecture and design, and California modernism. The piece has been finished in a gorgeous silver cerused oak accentuating the natural woodgrain in silver against a gray background. Deceivingly minimal, the chest features seven elegantly proportioned drawers that cantilever over a base. The drawers alternate in height, each featuring a pair of Frankl's iconic X-form pulls in nickel, and are separated from one another by a thin bead molding. The top and sides of the chest extend past the drawers encasing the piece. With its clean lines and timeless form, this high chest would be a winning addition to any style of interior from Classic Mid-Century Modern to contemporary. With their clean lines and timelessly modernist form, these nightstands would be a winning addition to any style of interior from Classic midcentury to contemporary. Mint restored condition.
