Cold-worked art glass chess set, circa 1995. This set includes a full size board and all game pieces one side finished in 24-karat white gold and another in 24-karat yellow gold. The game board is comprise of a solid piece of kiln-formed glass with the playing field carved in multiple layers along the bottom side. The game pieces consist of kiln-formed glass cubes which have a 3d carving of each character worked in one side and 24-karat gold leaf put into each relief. One player's pieces are finish in 24k white gold and the another player in 24-karat yellow gold. This art sculpture chess set is one of two made and comes from artist Jeffrey Andrews personal collection. The board is signed "Jeffery Andrews". Game board- 17.5" x 17.5" x 3/4" Jeffrey studied architecture and design under Hans Schroeder and has created interiors, glass art, and furniture for clients including Herman Miller as well as designing a contemporary residence next door to David Letterman. He created Felt Glass Studio in 1990 and has exhibited his work internationally. He is a renowned glass artist who attended Pilchuck Glass school and taught glass making at Esalen Institute. In addition to many private commissions, Felt Glass has been sold at Barneys NY, Saks Fifth Avenue, Gumps and Neiman Marcus. Museum stores like the Guggenheim and the American Craft Museum have also exhibited Felt Glass. Felt Glass has been featured in Gourmet, The New York Times, Bon Appetit and Brides.
