This iconic and sculptural "Deco" chair was realized by the 20th Century luminary Vladimir Kagan- one of the most influential and celebrated designers of the 20th Century- in the United States, circa 1975. It features dramatic streamlined sides; boldly channeled (and streamlined) seat and back cushions; and a notched back with cutout forms at each of the rear corners, creating dynamic negative space. This piece brilliantly assimilates leitmotifs of Art Deco design (most notably the streamlined forms appearing throughout) into a design that is perennially modern and contemporary feeling. In the words of fashion designer Tom Ford, it retains "that potency and flair that is new and fresh" after all these decades. With its monochromatic palate and graphic presence, this piece would be a winning addition to any style of interior from classic Deco to contemporary. It has been newly reupholstered in platinum velvet and is in mint restored condition.
